อุทิศ เหมะมูล เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 10 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2518 ที่อำเภอแก่งคอย จังหวัดสระบุรี เรียนชั้นประถมที่โรงเรียนแสงวิทยา ชั้นมัธยมต้นที่โรงเรียนแก่งคอย มีใจรักชอบการวาดรูป แต่ด้วยบิดาวาดหวังให้เป็นวิศวกร จึงแอบไปสมัครสอบเรียนศิลปะที่แผนกศิลปกรรม สถาบันเทคโนโลยีราชมงคล วิทยาเขตภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ นครราชสีมา และสอบเข้าคณะจิตรกรรม ประติมากรรม และภาพพิมพ์ มหาวิทยาลัยศิลปากร (วังท่าพระ) กรุงเทพฯ ยังความปลาบปลื้มให้บิดาเป็นอย่างมาก ปี 2542 ได้ร่วมงานกับฟิล์มไวรัส ดวงกมลฟิล์มเฮาส์ จัดฉายหนังตามสถานศึกษาต่างๆ และได้มีหนังสั้นเป็นของตัวเองชื่อ พิภพบรรฑูรย์ อีกทั้งจับพลัดจับพลูได้เป็นผู้กำกับศิลป์ ภาพยนตร์ไทยเรื่อง ดอกไม้ในทางปืน กำกับภาพยนตร์โดยมานพ อุดมเดช ปี 2543 เริ่มเขียนบทความทางภายนตร์ให้กับนิตยสาร Movie Time ระหว่างนั้นเขียนเรื่องสั้นไปด้วย เรื่องสั้นเรื่องแรกที่ได้รับการตีพิมพ์ชื่อ เลือน: จุดจบของนามอันเป็นอื่น ที่สยามรัฐสัปดาห์วิจารณ์ ต่อมาใน ปี 2547 พิมพ์นวนิยายเรื่องแรก ระบำเมถุน ปี 2548 ตีพิมพ์รวมเรื่องสั้น ปริมาตรรำพึง (ผ่านเข้ารอบ 20 เล่มสุดท้ายรางวัลซีไรต์ ปี 2549 ตีพิมพ์นวนิยาย กระจกเงา / เงากระจก (ผ่านเข้ารอบ 15 เล่มสุดท้ายรางวัลซีไรต์) ปี 2551 ตีพิมพ์รวมเรื่องสั้น ไม่ย้อนคืน และบทวิจารณ์ภาพยนตร์ OUTSIDER IN CINEMA ปี 2552 นวนิยาย “ลับแล, แก่งคอย” ได้รับรางวัลวรรณกรรมสร้างสรรค์ยอดเยี่ยมแห่งอาเซียน (ซีไรต์) ประจำปี พ.ศ. 2552
