The first edition appeared in 1769. Oliver Goldsmith (1730-1774) attended Trinity College, Dublin, obtaining his degree in 1749. He became a prolific writer, and a member of Samuel Johnson's circle; and may be remembered best as the author of the Vicar of Wakefield, Citizen of the World, and The Deserted Village.
