The second part, "The War in Belgium," is a harrowing account of Sinclair's experiences during the early days of World War I. She describes the German invasion of Belgium and the devastation it caused, including the burning of Louvain and the destruction of the medieval town of Dinant. Sinclair also provides firsthand accounts of the bravery and resilience of the Belgian people in the face of the invasion.
