A married woman, Sofya, with a daughter is pursued by a friend, Ivan, of five years who, suddenly it would appear, two weeks before the start of the story began courting this supposedly happily married woman. Sofya loves her husband and does not wish to disturb him. Sofya wishes for Ivan to leave or to stay as a friend and forget this idea of loving her. Meanwhile, Sofya looks into her own emotions as to why she can't seem to get Ivan away, and how much she enjoys that such a smart man loves her.
