Dark and stormy nights can be murder. The last thing alpaca farmer, avid crocheter, and amateur sleuth, Josephina Thompson, expects to see in the middle of a summer storm is a stranger at her front door, muttering about a car accident that he witnessed and demanding her help. Jo braves the rain and thunder and hurries to the scene of the accident, only to discover a dead woman and a mysterious figure watching them through the downpour. After the weather clears, the truth about the crash remains murky, and Jo has her suspicions that the accident may not have been an accident after all.
