It was on her wedding day that these stories were proven to be true as the Rift opened and creatures came through. When her younger sister is taken by the creatures, Ace puts her fear at the back of her mind and crosses the Rift to save her family. The rabbit hole of insanity that she falls down after crossing it was not something she was prepared for.
