Endgames Alfred Hitchcock loves the murder game because it offers such an infinite possibility of moves. A drop of arsenic in coffee, a silken noose around the neck, a sharpened knife in the back, a bullet in the brain, are just a few of the classic ploys—and there is always somebody to come up with a fascinating new variation. Now Alfie has set up his chessboard of evil, and turned his grandest masters of the macabre loose to do their bloodcurdling best—in novelettes and stories by such fiendish favorites as: The Human Fly by Syd Hoff Two Bits' Worth of Luck by Fletcher Flora (novelette) An Honest Man by Elijah Ellis An Interrogation by Talmage Powell Choice of Weapon by C. B. Gilford Mr. D. and Death by Henry Slesar Others Deal in Death by August Derleth A Steal at the Price by James Holding The Waiting Room by Charles W. Runyon Everybody Should Have a Hobby by Theodore Mathieson Beiner and Wife by Michael Brett Select Bait by Richard O. Lewis Punch Any Number by Jack Ritchie (novelette) White Lie, or Black? by Hal Ellson With an Introduction by Alfred Hitchcock.

Sir Alfred Joseph Hitchcock KBE (1899-1980) was an iconic and highly influential film director and producer, who pioneered many techniques in the suspense and thriller genres. Following a very substantial career in his native Britain in both silent films and talkies, Hitchcock moved to Hollywood and became an American citizen with dual nationality in 1956, thus he also remained a British subject. Hitchcock directed more than fifty feature films in a career which spanned six decades, from the silent film era, through the invention of sound films, and far into the era of colour films. For a complete list of his films, see Alfred Hitchcock filmography. Hitchcock was among the most consistently recognizable directors to the general public, and was one of the most successful film directors during his lifetime. He continues to be one of the best known and most popular filmmakers of all time.
