En décembre 1971, après les Deux Anglaises et le Continent, François Truffant participe à Montréal à l'émission de la journaliste Aline Desjardins, "Femme d'aujourd'hui". Le texte de ces entretiens radiophoniques est publié en 1973 par "Radio-Canada". François Truffant accordait beaucoup d'importance à ce petit livre: il en dit plus. Il parle de son enfance, de sa famille, de ses débuts dans la vie et dans le cinéma, de ses amitiés (André Bazin) et de ses admirations (Jean Renoir, Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock) avec une sincérité, une gravité et une lucidité bouleversantes. Illustrés par les documents personnels de F. Truffant, ces entretiens n'avaient pratiquement pas été distribués en France.
