Anne Claude Philippe de Tubieres de Grimoard de Pestels de Levis, comte de Caylus, marquis d'Esternay, baron de Bransac, born in 1692, was a French aristocrat, scholar, and engraver. He wrote about the great painters of the eighteenth century and about the antiquities of the classical civilizations. He also wrote romances, compared "old" fairy tales to those written in his own time, and composed some original fairy tales of his own.
