La obra de Paz es vasta y versátil, pero al hablar sobre su producción literaria muy poco se dice sobre los cuentos que escribió en 1949 y que agrupó bajo el nombre Arenas movedizas. Dos años después de escribirlos, en 1951, se publicaron en su obra ¿Águila o sol?.
