It's the early days of the American Civil War, and Reuben Cole is serving as a scout in the Union Army. Posted to a remote fort, the Army of the Potomac, under General McClellan, is attempting an ambitious assault on confederate positions, in the hopes of turning their flank and bringing the war to a swift end. Cole is assigned to track down a ruthless bunch of raiders, hell-bent on killing as many of the Northern Blues as they can. But when personal tragedy strikes, Cole will need to take his first steps on the path that will transform him into the hardened, uncompromising man he is to become, and to learn the lessons that will keep him alive through the hardships that await.

These are difficult times for so many of us, uncertainty and unease, constant companions. A good book can help us all to escape to a different world. As a writer, I'm fortunate that I can create new worlds or visit old ones. I hope you can join me as I sit here, at my home in Spain and do my best to do what I do best! Mine is not a rags to riches story or one borne out of hardship, the need to write to pay bills, or the result of a college course. I write because I love it and I always strive to make my work as enjoyable as possible. Writing in several genres allows me to weave all sorts of different stories, from Westerns to thrillers to historical fiction. Readers can slip into another world and come out feeling breathless, excited, desperate for more. Sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don't, but I try my best.
