2007

""'Dave Jeffery has created a tale that is intelligent and fun from start to finish. This is one romping adventure!' "" - The Baxter Bulletin ""'This is a great feast with course after course of satisfying dishes. Excellent!' "" - Bookreview.com ""'I had a hard time laying this book down - wonderful!' "" - Readerviews.com Description A 12 year old girl. A 200 year old secret. Beatrice Beecham - Adventure has new ingredients! If it is well known that laughter is good for your mental health; then take a look inside this book! About the Author Dave Jeffery is 43 and lives in Worcestershire, UK. Dave started writing when he was 10 years old, and couldn't find anything better to do one Saturday afternoon. He turned to creating fantasy worlds rather that challenge deficits in his personality that did not help him to make any friends. It has always been an ambition to write full time but, in reality, this is just another one of his puerile, misguided fantasies. When he is not writing, Dave works with people who endure mental health issues - a job that he has loved for the past twenty-four years. Apparently, he's even published books on the subject. Dave is married to his long suffering wife, Justine, and has two children; both of which consider their father to be something of a weirdo.

Dorsal Finn is a sleepy town, nestled in a small crescent shaped bay, facing the gleaming Atlantic Ocean. In its one hundred and ninety-eight year history the town has come to know mystery and skullduggery like the dearest of friends, so much so it has now become quite normal to have the odd explosion here or missing person there without many of the townsfolk raising as much as an eyebrow. And it is in the town of Dorsal Finn that one Beatrice Beecham now resides, a girl of remarkable talent amongst which is an absolute, innate gift for finding trouble. Within these pages are all kinds of trouble: witches, shaman, and sea monsters, to name but a few. Yet Beatrice is to find out that of all the terrible things lurking in the shows of Dorsal Finn, the biggest threat may come from the town itself.

Dave Jeffery: Beatrice Beecham is a YA novel with a difference. Teenagers and adults are both central to the plot, and it uses high doses of humour to tackle very dark themes, including some of the terrible, very real histories of our past. Using these elements it is a book that will not only entertain teenagers and adults alike, it will also leave readers thinking about some of the deeper questions raised as the story unfolds. Tell us a bit more about your main character. Dave Jeffery: Beatrice Beecham is fifteen years old. She has fiery red hair and not tolerance of bullies. As well as worshipping TV chef Jamie Oliver she also has the inherent ability to find trouble. And the town of Dorsal Finn has plenty of trouble lurking beneath its calm and placid exterior. Beatrice discovers the town has plans for her too, naming her as the Incorruptible Heart, the arch nemesis of the malevolent entity imprisoned beneath Dorsal Finn itself!
