Alan Alexander Milne was an English author, best known for his children’s books and for various children's poems. Milne was a noted writer, primarily as a playwright, before the huge success of Pooh overshadowed all his previous work. Belinda is an early play by Milne. A light and escapist comedy, Milne himself called it "a purely artificial comedy whose only purpose was to amuse". It first opened at the New Theatre, London on 8 April 1918, with Irene Vanbrugh playing the title role of Belinda.
