In February of 2002, Max Sawyer, a reporter at the Memphis Post, is assigned an easy story to cover. He has to attend a fundraiser at the Jansen Natural History Museum and write an article for the society page. While society isn't Max's normal beat, he figures he can handle an evening of wining and dining with the Memphis social elite until one of the curators is found murdered in his office. Now, Max's mundane society story has turned into something he can get his teeth into. The race is on to find the murderer in time to make the morning edition.
