Paranormal Nonsense

2017

If Jack Reacher was a paranormal investigator… The paranormal? It’s all nonsense but proving it might just get me killed. I won’t tell you what I used to do in the army, it’s not important. Let’s just say I picked up some skills. Now those skills are proving useful, but I didn’t choose my second career as a paranormal investigator; I don’t even believe in vampire and werewolves. Sometimes though, I secretly worry that I might be wrong. People call on me to solve cases too weird for the police to take on. Take today for instance; a third victim was found with a bite mark in her lifeless throat. It’s happening in my town and I take that sort of thing personally. I’ll take the case on without having a client, but one soon arrives in the form of Amanda Harper, a disillusioned police officer who wants the killing stopped just as much as me. Together, and with back up from a cast of friends, we are going after whatever is behind the deaths, but my probing draws its attention and now my family are the hunted. But when someone I know is taken, a race against time begins which will pitch me into a battle for my life. Good thing I have some skills then. If you are a fan of fast-paced paranormal thrillers, then this urban fantasy series is sure to please.

The Phantom of Barker Mill

2017

Tempest Michaels never could refuse a woman in distress. The owner of Barker Steel Mill has died. The coroner says natural causes, but the tearful widow is convinced otherwise and the Mill has a Phantom that has been held responsible for accidents and deaths dating back to 1912. With Amanda’s assistance, he embarks on a quest to uncover the secret behind the cloaked figure, but is anyone telling him the truth? The new owner – the handsome, athletic, multi-millionaire Brett Barker, is less than happy to have them poking around and seems a little bit too interested in Amanda for Tempest’s liking. If his unspoken feelings for Amanda were not enough of a distraction, his mother wants him to organise a baby shower, the cute girl in the coffee shop is being abundantly clear about what she wants Tempest for, he needs to hire an office assistant and the Dachshunds are threatening rebellion if the treat quota does not improve. The gang return for another hilarious thrill-ride in the second installment of the Blue Moon Investigation series.

Amanda Harper Paranormal Detective

2018

Paranormal investigation takes balls. Amanda will just have to wing it then. Amanda Harper's life has changed a lot in the few weeks since she met Tempest Michaels. Working out her notice period in Kent Police, she has already taken a new job as a Paranormal Investigator to work alongside him. She could be interested in Tempest, but even after she arrested (thankfully he was innocent) Brett Barker, the single, athletic, multi-millionaire heir to the Barker family fortune he still wants to take her on a date to Paris in his helicopter. How does a girl say no to that? But Tempest has a case for her to look into: There is an elevator in a nearby shopping center that has a ghost in it. The specter has shown up on a photograph and people's belongings have gone missing from inside the lift without anyone getting on or off. The shopping center manager wants the case solved, but will she be able to bring the spook into the daylight and reveal its true nature? Or will she get stuck in the dicksand with Brett like sassy best friend and Police colleague Patience Woods predicts and just be too distracted to solve crimes? The Klowns of Kent

2018

There might be no such thing as werewolves, vampires or ghosts but apparently evil, dickhead Klowns are real. Tempest Michaels is once again investigating ridiculous cases that are clearly not even slightly paranormal in nature but his daily menu of fun is interrupted by a plague of men dressed in garish outfits with twisted clown make-up as they terrorise the Kent towns and villages with ever escalating and more frequent attacks. If they were not enough of a nuisance he has foolishly employed a woman he is utterly in love with. Trying to ignore Mr Wriggly’s thoughts about what to do with his new colleague, he goes after his silver medal, a girl he lusted after years ago at school, but while Mr Wriggly might not care tuppence about the difference, is Tempest’s heart really in it? The Klowns should be a case for the police to solve but their leader appears to have a serious beef with Tempest and they are coming for him and anyone that gets between them. Who are the Klowns? What do they want? And what's with the ridiculous smiles? Throw in a demonic possession, a restaurant with ghostly footsteps and some more meddling by his mother, it looks like another entertaining week for Kent’s best Paranormal Investigator.

Dead Pirates of Cawsand

2018

Escaping for a week of peaceful reflection, cream teas and dog walking sounded like a good idea for Kent’s best Paranormal Investigator after his battle with the Klowns. However, once he arrives in the sleepy Cornish village of Cawsand, Tempest Michaels soon finds himself hip deep in murderous, dead, skeletal pirates. A man has been murdered – run through with a cutlass on board his boat, villagers and tourists alike have been scared out of town by the terrifying ghosts and centuries old gold coins have washed up on the beach causing a deluge of treasure hunters. Worse yet, the Cornish Police are not putting much effort into their investigation because the perpetrators are ghosts and thus already dead. Tempest, together with the village Police Officer, the diminutive, sexy and very domineering Bobbi the Bobby plus a couple of other helping hands he could probably do without, want to crack the case. The locals believe the ghosts are real though and the village is filling up with ghost hunters convinced they can make a fortune by proving the ghosts are real and he has a worryingly fervent Parish Council to work around. And, oh yeah, it's Halloween.

In the Doodoo with Voodoo

2018

Paranormal investigation takes balls. Amanda will just have to wing it then. What was she thinking? Quitting her steady job in the Police for an uncertain future at a paranormal investigation agency? No time to dwell on it though as she has a new client with a surprising problem – Kimberly Kousins has been cursed by a voodoo priest. Determined to prove to herself, her former Chief Inspector (whom she loathes) and everyone else, that she is a capable woman with no need for a man to rescue her, she is going to have to bend the day to her will. But voodoo nonsense isn’t the only thing distracting her. After several dates with hot, athletic, superrich Brett Barker, they still haven’t made it into bed. Is that normal? Is he waiting for her to make the first move? Her new boss has inexplicably taken the week off without warning, leaving her to run the business and his best friend, the six-foot-seven-inch, handsome, muscular Benjamin Winters AKA Big Ben is being very clear about what he wants to do with her. You can be certain that nothing will go as planned in this mayhem-filled, madcap cozy mystery.

The Witches of East Malling

2018

Tempest Michaels is back! His office burned down, his love life is a joke and he is convinced he is getting fat. It's the perfect time for a new case then. The client is the son of a man who was killed in freak accident - struck by lightning. That doesn't sound very paranormal until you learn that he was inside his house when it happened and his heart exploded out of his chest. There are eldritch runes drawn on the victim’s house and his wife, together with several of her friends, has been seen colluding with a mysterious old crone. Is there witchcraft being practiced in the nearby village of East Malling? The client certainly thinks so. Will he be swift enough to solve the case before anyone else is killed? Will Frank’s witch-sniffer toad sniff out the witch? Will Tempest’s assistant turn up dressed as a boy or a girl? You can bet there will be bedlam as Tempest and his trusted sausage dogs find themselves pitted against another potentially deadly foe.

Crop Circles, Cows, and Crazy Aliens

2018

There are crop circles in the fields near Cliffe Woods and unexplained lights in the sky at night. Does Amanda's latest case have aliens at its core? Of course not, because there is no such thing! But, when a farmer hires paranormal investigator Amanda Harper to look into his glowing milk, she doesn’t sense how crazy things are about to get, and before she can even start investigating, a frozen body is found and the conspiracy theory nutters arrive to argue about the inner workings of an alien freeze ray. Leading the bunch is none other than Jack Hammer, the handsome, self-proclaimed star of the internet show Alien Quest. He wants Amanda as a co-host to boost his ratings and won’t take no for an answer. But Amanda has other distractions, not least of which is her estranged uncle Knobhead arriving unexpectedly to offer his assistance – he was kidnapped by aliens, you know. Amanda is going all out to solve this case, so let’s just hope the help she gets from Patience Woods, her sassy police officer best friend doesn’t, slow her down too much. Crop circles, doped cows, spacecraft sightings, and a mysterious government agency trained to repel alien invasions all combine to give Amanda Harper her toughest test yet in this funny, cozy mystery. The Harper Files are a spin off from the Blue Moon Investigation Series where Amanda is introduced and recruited by Tempest Michaels. You can read this series without ever reading the other books, but I have to raise a minor spoiler alert if you decide to read the Harper Files first and then go back to the Blue Moon series. Please be aware that this book contains some mild cussing and occasional sexual references. There are no elements that should be considered worthy of an R rating though.

Whispers in the Rigging

2019

What lurks in the shadows at the Royal Navy Historic Dockyard? Is it something evil and malignant? Will it suck at your soul? No, because it will be some idiot in a costume, same as always. Tempest Michaels is going undercover with best friend Big Ben to find out why his Dad was found unconscious and stuffed into a wheelie bin. There is no client this time, just a definite need to find someone worthy of a jolly good punch in the pants. With strange noises coming through the floor of the rigging room and reports of ghosts seen at night wearing the uniform of 18th Century Royal Navy Officers, the chaps set out to unravel the mystery, but is there more going on than a simple fake haunting? Also, what do the old Navy boys mean by their offer of help? And why are so many of the employees Ukrainian? It’s going to take more than a determined approach and Big Ben’s top chat-up lines to get through this one. Plus, it’s Jagjit’s wedding next weekend which means a Batchelor party in four days’ time. Will he survive the anti-Army banter of the old Navy boys? Will Big Ben copulate with every single woman on the night-shift cleaning crew? Join them as we find out just what is causing the Whispers in the Rigging. Warning: This book contains some mild cussing and sexual references. Nothing that would be R rated but I would not let my nine-year-old niece read it.

A Typo, a Werewolf, and Two Dopey Dachshunds

2019

Tempest Michaels is about to have a bad week. When a newspaper ad typo sends all manner of daft paranormal enquiries his way, P.I. Tempest Michaels has no sense of the trouble and danger heading his way. In no time at all, he has multiple cases to investigate, but it’s all ridiculous nonsense like minor celebrity Richard Claythorn, who believes he is being stalked by a werewolf and a shopkeeper in a nearby village with an invisible thief. Solving these cases might be fun if his demanding mother (Why are there no grandchildren, Tempest?) didn’t insist on going with him, but the simple case of celebrity stalking might not be all it seems when he catches a man lurking behind the client’s property just in time to see him step into the moonlight and begin to transform. All he wanted was a nice easy job where he got to be his own boss and could take his trusty Dachshunds to work. How much trouble can a typo cause? The paranormal?
