Former U.S. Marshal Jake Timber had been feeling disconnected and alone since his involuntary retirement. He learns of a shooting contest in Red Bluff, Texas, and decides to compete, having nothing better to do with his time. Upon discovering his identity, the local sheriff deputizes Timber for the duration of the contest. As usual, trouble soon finds Timber, and, although he is on the winning side of his matches, he begins to realize that something sinister is happening in the town that has nothing to do with the contest. Partnering with Laura, the beautiful owner of the Open Range Saloon, Timber is forced to take the law into his own hands to stop a band of criminals from their dangerous plan.
