Lydia Cacho was born in Mexico City in 1963 to a French mother and a Mexican father. She settled in Cancún, Mexico in 1985, where she began working at the newspaper Novedades de Cancún. Cacho speaks Spanish, French, Portuguese and English. She is an award-winning Mexican journalist, author, feminist, and human rights activist who has published hundreds of news articles, a poetry book, a novel, collections of essays on human rights and other nonfiction works. She has made it her life’s work to investigate sexual slavery. For her work she has been kidnapped, raped, tortured and been the target of death threats. A fearless and courageous defender of the rights of women and children in Mexico, Cacho routinely risks her life to shelter women from abuse and challenge powerful government and business leaders who profit from child prostitution and pornography. Cacho is the founder of Ciam Cancún, a shelter for battered women and children. Her work with women and children in Mexico has been extremely effective in terms of rescue and rehabilitation of the countless individuals who seek assistance from the shelter. She was the first woman to bring a case before Mexico’s Supreme Court following her imprisonment on defamation charges after the publication of her book, Demons of Eden, in which she investigates child sexual abuse and pedophilia rings. Amnesty International has recognised her work.

Fernanda Trías (Montevideo, 12 de octubre de 1976) es una escritora uruguaya. Es profesora de inglés y traductora certificada. Fernanda Trías is a Uruguayan writer. She was born in Montevideo in 1976. She is the author of three novels and two short story collections. In 2004 she won a Unesco scholarship to write in Camac, an artists’ residence in Marnay-sur-Seine. She lived for five years in the medieval village of Provins and a few months in London. She spent one year in Berlin and two years in Buenos Aires. Trías earned a Master’s degree in creative writing from New York University and was disciple of the Uruguayan writer Mario Levrero. She integrated anthologies of new narrative in Colombia, the United States, Uruguay, Peru, Germany (Neues vom Fluss: Junge Literatur aus Argentinien, Uruguay und Paraguay, 2010) and UK (Uruguayan Women Writers, 2012). Her novel Rooftop (La azotea, 2001) was selected among the best books of the year by the El País Cultural Supplement, and won the third prize of edited narrative of the Uruguayan National Literature Prize (2002). In 2006 she received the BankBoston Foundation Prize for National Culture. She was one of the “Voices for the New Millennium”, organized by Cornell University in 2013. She currently lectures in Creative Writing at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. Her most recent novel Mugre Rosa (Pink Slime) has just come out in Uruguay (2020).

Estudió Ciencias Políticas en la UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México), donde luego impartió clases hasta que se trasladó a vivir a Barcelona, España. Ha publicado el libro de relatos Arrastrar esa sombra (2008, Sexto Piso) y la novela Morirse de memoria (2010, Sexto Piso), ambos finalistas del Premio Antonin Artaud. Después llegarían El cielo árido (2012), Las tierras arrasadas (Literatura Random House, 2015), ganadora del IX Premio Iberoamericano de Novela Elena Poniatowska; La superficie más honda (Literatura Random House, 2017) y No contar todo (Literatura Random House, 2018). Ha colaborado con diversos medios impresos, entre los que destacan El País, Letras Libres, Reforma y Gatopardo, y ha trabajado como editor de libros y revistas. En dos ocasiones (2008-09 y 2010-11) ha sido beneficiario del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes, del mexicano Conaculta, y en 2011 fue seleccionado por la Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara (FIL) como uno de los 25 escritores secretos más importantes de América Latina. Es, además, el último miembro de la Orden del Finnegans.

Guadalupe Nettel (born 1973) is a Mexican writer. She was born in Mexico City and obtained a PhD in linguistics from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris. She has published in several genres, both fiction and non-fiction. Nettel is a prolific author and a regular contributor to both Spanish- and French-language magazines, including Letras Libres, Hoja por hoja, L'atelier du roman, and L'inconvénient. In 2006 she was voted one of thirty-nine most important Latin American writers under the age of thirty-nine at the Bogotá Hay Festival. She has lived in Montreal and Paris, and is now based in Barcelona, where she works as a translator and holds writing seminars and a workshop on Potential Literature (based on the French Oulipo). She is the author of Juegos de artificio [False Games], Les jours fossiles [Fossil Days], Pétalos y otras historias incómodas [Petals and other Awkward Stories], and El huésped [The Host], and the recipient of the Premio Herralde, third place, for El huésped, and the 2008 Premio Antonin Artaud and the 2007 Gilbert Owen Short Story Prize in Mexico for Pétalos. Guadalupe Nettel’s stories have been described as “marvellous” by the distinguished Colombian author Juan Gabriel Vázquez, and the critic Juan Ignacio Boido has praised Nettel’s creation of “a universe where Roberto Bolaño’s visceral poets rub shoulders with the fragile but unbreakable women of Haruki Murakami.”

Jazmina Barrera (Ciudad de México, 1988) fue becaria de la Fundación para las Letras Mexicanas y beneficiaria de las residencias de la Casa Estudio Cien Años de Soledad. Fue becaria del programa de Jóvenes Creadores del Fonca. Estudió la maestría en Escritura Creativa en Español en NYU con el apoyo de la beca Fullbright. Sus textos han sido publicados en revistas como The Paris Review, El País, Words Without Borders, Malpensante, Electric Literature y The New York Times, entre otras. Es autora de Cuerpo extraño, Cuaderno de faros, Linea nigra, Los nombres de los animales y Punto de Cruz. Su libro de ensayos Cuerpo extraño / Foreign Body ganó el premio Latin American Voices 2013. Linea nigra fue finalista del premio CANIEM al libro del año, del premio Primera Novela y del National Book Critics Crircle’s Gregg Barrios Book in Translation Prize. Cuaderno de faros fue parte de la longlist del premio Von Rezzori. Sus libros han sido publicados en nueve países y traducidos al inglés, italiano, holandés y francés.
