Every Thursday Caterina visits her boyfriend Aurelio in Rebibbia prison in Rome, where, following a mysterious tip-off to the police, he is being held in custody under suspicion of pimping the strippers in the nightclub he was running. What would Aurelio say if he knew that she went straight from the prison to meet the policeman who arrested him, and who is now her lover? Caterina’s life is difficult and her environment challenging but she is a survivor and takes everything life throws at her without complaint. Caterina is very much a heroine for our times.

Claudia Durastanti è una scrittrice e traduttrice italiana. Si laurea in antropologia culturale all'Università La Sapienza di Roma, per poi proseguire gli studi alla De Montfort University di Leicester e tornando a La Sapienza per un master in editoria e giornalismo. Ha lavorato come consulente editoriale per il Salone del libro di Torino e ha cofondato il Festival Italian of Literature in London. Ha esordito nel 2010 con il romanzo Un giorno verrò a lanciare sassi alla tua finestra vincendo il Premio Mondello Giovani, il Premio Castiglioncello Opera Prima ed arrivando in finale al Premio John Fante. Traduttrice presso Marsilio e minimum fax, ha in seguito pubblicato i romanzi A Chloe, per le ragioni sbagliate nel 2013 e tre anni dopo Cleopatra va in prigione che sviluppa un suo racconto precedentemente contenuto nell'antologia L'età della febbre, dedicata ai migliori under-40 della scena letteraria italiana. Nel 2019 ha dato alle stampe il memoir famigliare dedicato alla figura materna La straniera entrando nella cinquina finale del Premio Strega 2019 e vincendo il Premio Strega Off e il Premio Pozzale Luigi Russo. Sempre con La straniera è finalista al Premio Alassio Centolibri, al Premio Viareggio e al Premio Stresa.
