The third adventure in a brand new Mountain Man series from D.M. Haggard! After guiding famed explorer John C. Frémont to California, Cody Dakota trekked north to Lake Tahoe and lived with the Washoe people. But his wanderer’s heart is calling him home again to his beloved Colorado Rockies. His roundabout journey there takes him through majestic redwood forests and rough mining towns, home to animal and human predators alike. After an encounter with two bushwhackers outside Chetco, Oregon, Cody acquires the deed to a gold claim half-owned by James W. Marshall, whose discovery of the precious metal at Sutter’s Mill kicked off the Gold Rush. Is the claim worthless or not? The only way to find out is to go there. The claim is worth plenty, it turns out—according to Jamie Sutter, daughter of Johann Sutter, Marshall’s prospecting partner. But it’s currently controlled by unscrupulous men who finagled Johann’s share from him for a measly five hundred dollars. Jamie can help Cody get what’s owed them both, but it may cost him the mountain man life he loves. After all, whoever heard of a millionaire in buckskins?

D. M. Haggard, aka D. M. Horridge, was born in Texas, raised on cactus, dust, and a strong family. When I was very young, I would visit my uncle's farm in San Antonio and work side by side with my seven cousins baling hay, swimming in a round cow trough, and hunting rattlesnakes. I've hunted and fished all over the United States, and have worked like a trojan on my own ranch in Texas. I've written short stories and professional articles for a variety of marketing and professional magazines, but only recently started writing western adventure stories. I like learning about the real characters of western history and use them in a fictional way. I feel like I am preserving their memory and the heritage they left for us over time. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife of 55 years, two terrific children, and a million friends. I try to leave a message in every book that says to the reader, "we are all part of this world of ours and we need to work together to keep it from falling apart." My family is the most important part of my life. I have also been blessed with four fabulous grandchildren and two spouses of our children who have brought a wonderful depth to our family and extended family. One of my favorite subjects is the Texas Rangers, a group of tough, honorable, and law-abiding men and women. Only recently I have begun a series of children's books named "The Amazing Adventures of Two Boys." They represent many of the stories my father told to my brother and me as children. Always exciting, but not frightening, they give me great pleasure to write and publish on Amazon under my father's name, Don Horridge, and my name D. M. Horridge. All of the proceeds from these children's books are donated to children's ministries throughout the world. Thanks for listening.
