The fifth adventure in a new Mountain Man series from D.M. Haggard! Fresh off a trek to Utah, Cody Dakota decides it’s high time he traveled up north. He’s heard from fellow mountain men of a region near Fort Brisebois in the Canadian Rockies, where glaciers carved vast lakes with waters so blue, they’d hurt your eyes. His route takes him through Wyoming, including the yellow stone region with its hot springs and other natural wonders. He’s been there once before, and always promised himself he’d come back someday. He hadn’t planned on company on this journey, but an encounter with a young Ute on an antelope hunt changes his mind. The Ute, Elsu, has traversed the wilderness for many moons with only his horse for company. Why is he out here all alone? Cody wants to know, and takes a liking to Elsu. When he suggests they ride together, Elsu accepts. They find wonders and perils along the way—a volcanic eruption, a raging prairie fire, a grizzly attack, and Crow and Blackfeet war bands. A different kind of adventure awaits when they cross into Canada and meet Alex, an ordinary storekeeper with an unexpected link to Elsu. Will Cody bid his Ute friend farewell and journey on alone?

D. M. Haggard, aka D. M. Horridge, was born in Texas, raised on cactus, dust, and a strong family. When I was very young, I would visit my uncle's farm in San Antonio and work side by side with my seven cousins baling hay, swimming in a round cow trough, and hunting rattlesnakes. I've hunted and fished all over the United States, and have worked like a trojan on my own ranch in Texas. I've written short stories and professional articles for a variety of marketing and professional magazines, but only recently started writing western adventure stories. I like learning about the real characters of western history and use them in a fictional way. I feel like I am preserving their memory and the heritage they left for us over time. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife of 55 years, two terrific children, and a million friends. I try to leave a message in every book that says to the reader, "we are all part of this world of ours and we need to work together to keep it from falling apart." My family is the most important part of my life. I have also been blessed with four fabulous grandchildren and two spouses of our children who have brought a wonderful depth to our family and extended family. One of my favorite subjects is the Texas Rangers, a group of tough, honorable, and law-abiding men and women. Only recently I have begun a series of children's books named "The Amazing Adventures of Two Boys." They represent many of the stories my father told to my brother and me as children. Always exciting, but not frightening, they give me great pleasure to write and publish on Amazon under my father's name, Don Horridge, and my name D. M. Horridge. All of the proceeds from these children's books are donated to children's ministries throughout the world. Thanks for listening.
