After everything that happened over the holidays, private investigator Mika Chalmers needs some space - and she gets it in the form of a reunion of sorts. The NHL Irvine Buccaneers have been around since 1989 and their 32 year anniversary is coming up. Every year, Mika gets an invitation to attend the intimate reunion of the alumni due to being the current coach’s daughter but rejects it because high heels and small talk are things she would rather avoid. This time, however, she decides to accept. What else does she have to do for New Year’s? It’s definitely not moping over a frustrating, arrogant, jerk of a detective. What Mika doesn’t expect is a murder to take place or for said jerk of a detective Alex Beech to be there, assigned to security detail after the Chief of Police discovered he had contact with his father. Despite the tension between the two, they’re forced to team up to solve it. Granted, Jack Davenport is a womanizing sleaze with a peanut allergy and an ex-wife who's going for the jugular. But that doesn’t mean he deserves to be killed - especially not during a meet-and-greet with eleven other people in the room. But when a second murder occurs, Mika realizes that this isn’t a game with targets. This is a death match, and if she doesn’t figure out who’s pulling the strings, it won’t be long before someone else is next.
