The Meldling

2015

THE MELDLING is a tale of epic fantasy, set in a world where humans have been driven underground by a war not of their making, and one woman must find the truth of her existence within her own heart. She was rescued from a darkened dungeon; brought out into the light with no memory of her past. Her only certainty was her name: Suzanna. Her flesh marks her as a daemon, one of a race of deadly warriors locked in a war with their mortal enemies, the daevas, that has scoured the surface of the world. Humans are irrelevant to them both. But it was Lukas, a human knight, who carried her from the dungeon, nursed her back to health, and protected her from harm. Her body may be daemonic, but her soul is not, and there is a far deeper connection between her and Lukas than either of them will say. Lukas decides to bring her to Bastion, the hidden underground city of the humanva, to face the judgment of the Distant Nine. On the journey, the truth is revealed: Suzanna is a meldling, a rare fusion of daemonva and humanva. Meldlings are unstable, dangerous, and prone to total madness. Suzanna may be the first to keep her sanity, but if the Distant Nine decide that she is a threat, she will also be the last. Suzanna must accept her past, and finally learn who or what she really is, underneath her daemonic skin. Drawn into events beyond her control, the meldling will become the key to ending the war - but will it be with the destruction or the salvation of the daemonva? And are her feelings for one human knight real?

The Nameless Knight

2016

The forces of the Daeva-Ra have been routed, and the daemons of Halca have become a part of the underground city of Bastion. For many war-weary humanva and daemonva, the future is bright and happy. But for the meldling Suzanna, there can be no peace. The sorcerer who created her has struck again, and scores of unstable meldlings are appearing all across the humanva realm. These twisted, violent creatures, created from a fusion gone wrong of a daemon or daeva with a human, attack with suicidal fury and kill everything in their path. Though Bastion is insulated from the violence on the surface, the Outposts are not so lucky, and suffer an onslaught of meldling attacks. Old fears die hard as panicked humans turn on the daemons among them, and when the first Outpost falls to infighting, the choice is the sorcerer Dariem must be found and stopped. Naomee, a member of the Council of the Distant Nine and a powerful sorceress in her own right, has found a way to track their enemy. Suzanna herself is unique - the only stable meldling ever created - and she is the perfect bait to draw the sorcerer out of hiding. With a heavy and fearful heart, she accepts the Council’s grim request to put an end to the meldling attacks. With Naomee’s guidance and the help of her companions, she follows the trail of the sorcerer to the surface, intending to capture him and stop his evil schemes for good. But Dariem, who has evaded the Council’s magic at every turn, is more cunning than any of them anticipate. They are ambushed, and Lukas, Suzanna’s husband, is abducted. An unconscious daeva is left in his place - a daeva meldling with the armor of a knight, with seemingly no memory of his past, and without even a name. Suzanna has to find Lukas before he becomes the sorcerer’s next experiment, and stop Dariem before the Outposts and Bastion fall to his deranged meldling army. The nameless knight is the only one who can lead her to him. But how can she find the way if his memories are destroyed, and how can she trust an unstable meldling who might be one small step away from insanity? THE NAMELESS KNIGHT is the Second Novel of the Daemonva, and continues the story of Suzanna and her friends.

The Call of Aven-Ra

2019

THE CALL OF AVEN-RA concludes the story of Suzanna, as she searches for the truth of what she has become - and what she was made to do. The war between daemon and daeva has finally ended, and a new force has risen from the remnants of their armies. Suzanna has done the impossible, and united the daemonva. With the call of Aven-Ra's name, she gathers more warriors from every corner of the realm to the garrison of Caluness on the surface. But the sorcerer Dariem has escaped justice once again, and his army of unstable daeva meldlings has been unleashed on the world. The Council of the Distant Nine have vanished from Bastion, leaving Lord Valiant to lead the humanva. If he has his way, every daemon who swore fealty to Bastion will be purged. Suzanna has to stop the crazed meldlings and Valiant’s hateful plans in order to save both Bastion and the last of the daemonva, or the war she fought so hard to end will begin anew. But the name that has drawn both daemonva and humanva to her side has come at a great price. The dreamscape whispers to her, in visions that blur the line between reality and metaphor. The dying realms of Halca and Avarone cry out to her, demanding solace that she does not know how to give. Dariem still lurks in the shadows, and plots to rule all Bastion and the daemonva. The mysterious event known as the confluence of the realms is part of his plan, along with Suzanna herself. She must find her way through the forces pulling at her, and finally learn her true purpose. By the call of Aven-Ra, the realms will be restored - or they, and the daemonva, will vanish forever.
