Jessamy has been brought up to eat, drink and sleep ballet, let alone dance it, but has never quite managed to capture that special something in her dancing. When she spots Karen, a shy new girl at school, she sees in her that star quality lacking in herself, and vows to help her at all costs.

When Jessamy and Karen, first encountered in Star Turn, start at the Markoff Ballet Academy, it soon becomes apparent that Karen far outshines Jessamy. Can their friendship survive the competitive atmosphere?

Karen and Jessamy are now 16. Whilst Karen is a classic soloist in a ballet company, Jessamy develops a passion for Spanish dancing. Karen falls in love with a Spanish ballet dancer, but daren't speak to him until Jessamy comes up with a plan.
