The desert was a lonely place for Ramona to find love...and to die. THE GHOST TOWN was sixty miles from civilization, from the nearest store, the the closest doctor, the only hospital...sixty miles of empty Nevada desert. The town was empty, except for the old woman Ramona had come to nurse in Fannie Oman's house, the only one still habitable. And it was quite a house, with its solid silver door-knobs and a trove of antiques—and several hundred thousand dollars in cash that Fannie admitted to having secreted about the place. The old lady didn't trust banks, although she would take in any character who might drift by. And the house soon began to fill with men—men that Ramona dared not trust, even if one of them was Fannie's nephew. She was sure that they were after Fannie's money, for one of them was trying to kill the old lady—and Ramona too!
