"The Beaver Coat" ("Der Biberpelz") by Gerhart Hauptmann premiered in Berlin in 1893. The satirical play takes place in Berlin in the 1880s and is considered an example of a German naturalistic "Diebskomödie," or 'thief's comedy'. Hauptmann won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1912.
