En Diez horas de Caza, Jules Verne cuenta su experiencia como cazador en el año de 1859, en donde estuvo a punto de morir, al disparársele accidentalmente su escopeta. Esta aventura, produce en él una antipatía por la caza que la conservará durante toda su vida. Una temporada después, en el año de 1881, apoyado en dicha experiencia, Verne crea éste ocurrente y gracioso relato en contra de la caza y los cazadores, con las prácticas de un cazador que no lo es, sino por compromiso social.
