This is the second edition of a novel I dearly liked but always felt was lacking in thrills. A new character—in the person of a gypsy—has been added to enhance the drama and amplify the plot. The second edition also benefits from extensive editing. Whilst at Rosings, Elizabeth agrees to marry Darcy but places a condition on the marriage—the fulfilment of a promise. An innocent vow made in a moment of passion risks postponing or even cancelling the wedding when a gypsy transforms it into a covenant that puts the lives of Elizabeth’s family and friends in danger.
