While on leave from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, Staff Sergeant Reese Wilder’s life takes an unexpected turn when the lights go out during a layover in San Antonio, Texas. He makes a split decision to join forces with a stranger he met on the plane, and they hunker down at her family's ranch until disaster strikes yet again. Reese must make a decision—stay in Texas or make the long journey home to Florida in hopes to find his sister, Charly. Reese's journey takes him through the southern states, where he’s forced to confront the devastation that is now America and wrestle with his own demons as he struggles to stay alive.
