Like Mother, Like Daughter

2002

Okay, let's face it. My mom and I are never going to have a "normal" mother-daughter relationship because my mom isn't just my mother, she's my best friend. She would do anything for me, including asking her parents for the tuition money to send me to Chilton, this prestigious prep school that just accepted me. That was probably one of the toughest things she's ever done, although agreeing to weekly dinners in exchange for the loan probably runs a close second. My mom's just miserable at the mere thought of this. But the way I look at it? — I'd just say life is going to get a lot more interesting.

I Love You, You Idiot

It is crazy that Dean and I broke up. Things were going great between us. I mean, he tells me he loves me one minute, then the next minute he breaks up with me. My mom thinks I should wallow and stuff my face with junk food, but I'm not so sure that's the answer. And let's face it, when it comes to relationships, my mom doesn't always show the best judgment, especially if my dad's involved. What I really need to do is stay focused and keep busy. After all, I have Harvard to think about, so why waste time crying over a boy? Right? https://openlibrary.org/books/OL33848...

I Do, Don't I?

2002

""We have buried the putrid corpse of liberty."" — Benito Mussolini It's not like I'm surprised my mom picked the Mussolini quote for her wedding invitation. She's never been what one would call "conventional." I was a little surprised (but happy) when she agreed to marry my English teacher, Max Medina. Which makes my summer even busier—with my classes at Chilton, the wedding planning, and, as Paris so efficiently pointed out, about ten years of extracurricular activities to catch up on, it makes me wonder: whatever happened to the good ol' days of summer loving, had me a blast?

The Other Side of Summer

It's true. The Chilton gods seem to get great amusement out of putting Paris and me in the same setting, be it academically or socially. And they're alos bestowing their evil charms on my mom, who's been told by Headmaster Charleston that she needs to be more involved. So she's working on being a "Chilton mom," and I'm trying to be a "Puff." It hasn't been easy for either of us, especially with the distraction of my debutante ball, the arrival of Luke's nephew, Jess, and Tristan's return to school. What's Harvard?

Er liebt mich, er liebt mich nicht

2006

Coffee at Luke's

An Unauthorized Gilmore Girls Gabfest

2007

In the fall of 2000, Gilmore Girls premiered on the WB and viewers were introduced to the quirky world of Stars Hollow and the Gilmores who had made it their home, mother-daughter best friends Lorelai and Rory Gilmore. With the show in its seventh season on the fledgling CW, Coffee at Luke's is the perfect look at what has made the show such a clever, beloved part of the television landscape for so long. What are the risks of having your mother be your best friend? How is Gilmore Girls anti-family, at least in the traditional sense? What's a male viewer to do when he finds both mother and daughter attractive? And how is creator Amy Sherman-Palladino like Emily Gilmore? From the show's class consciousness to the way the characters are shaped by the books they read, the music they listen to and the movies they watch, Coffee at Luke's looks at the sometimes hilarious, sometimes heartbreaking underpinnings of smart viewer's Tuesday night television staple, and takes them further into Stars Hollow than they've ever been before.
