Grave New World
2022
The Council Gods Are Brutal. The Lesser Gods Are Worse. I'm All That Stands Between Them...
You won't find me in the lore of the gods, but I'm there, hidden between the lines. Whenever the lesser gods torture humanity, creating armies of supernatural beasts to rain hell down on the innocent, it's my job to stand against the tidal wave of pain and death.
I like my job. It's fun, even if the gods are assholes.
But in the thousands of years I've been running this gig, I've never seen the lesser gods pull together as a team. They've always been way too selfish and power-hungry for that.
Until now, apparently.
Perses, one of the lesser gods, has somehow managed to corral them into a unit of death and destruction, and the council has recognized their creation—me—isn't capable of handling it alone. So, for the first time since I've been doing this, I'm being forced to run a team of people who need to learn the ins and outs of what I do.
It ain't easy, especially since my new crew wasn't exactly built for this kind of mayhem. That's what happens when you take a bunch of normals and gift them with immortality, I suppose.
If we fail, the lesser gods will find their way onto the council, and that'll spell doom for the world as we know it.
My name is Grave Digger, and this is my story.

Grave Spirits
2022
The Keres Love Torture. The Keres Love Pain. I Love Kicking Their Teeth In.
The Goddess of Violent Death has shown up to the party, and she's doing what she does best: destroying shit.
My team of grave diggers are having to run buckshot in an effort to rein her in. That's a tall order, especially when the Keres have the backing of the other lesser gods. Her boss, Perses, is doing whatever he can to get me to fight—specifically me—but I have no idea why.
Someone's taking notes, though.
Whatever.
We either stop her or we watch the fabric of reality shred. That's the gig I was created for, and I'm damn good at it.
If it were only me dealing with it, I'd be loving life, but now that I have a team to worry about, things are more confused. To be fair, if I didn't have a team, I'd lose this war so fast that the council gods would have to step in.
Not even Perses wants that.
At least not yet...

Grave Dreams
2022
The God Of Nightmares Is Weaving Dreams. My Team Is Reliving Their Personal Hells. I'm Ready To Rip Out Throats.
When Perses brings on Epiales to start twisting the minds of my team, I end up having to face the tortures of REM. Not the band. I'm talking about sleep.
I wasn't built for sleep.
Worse, the God of Nightmares is systematically twisting my abilities in his dreamworld, forcing me to fight in different ways so he can feed the information back to Perses.
I still don't know why, exactly.
But I'm getting something out of this experience I'd never expected. I'm learning about the pasts of each team member. That's good and bad. It's good because it's helping me understand how they tick and why they are who they've become. It's bad because I'm discovering just how screwed up each of them truly is!
At this point I'm not sure if I despise Epiales or if I owe him my thanks.
Probably both.
Regardless, I must take him down and free my team from their dreams before he strips away every last remnant of who they are.

#4
Grave Magic
2022
Philotes Is Having An Identity Crisis. Moros Is Playing Dungeon Master. I'm Learning What It Means To Be A Pirate.
It was probably the wrong decision to go and see Philotes, but I couldn't help myself. Too bad it resulted in precisely what Athena had warned me would happen. Namely, it brought Nyx, Erebus, and a number of Philotes' brothers and sisters over to say, "Hi!"...and not in a good way.
To make things even more interesting, my crew and I got snagged by Moros, and we are being forced to act in his movie. We're playing the role of pirates because why wouldn't we?
The best part (and, yes, I'm laying the sarcasm on quite thick here) is that it's one of those "Save the Princess" quests we've been forced to endure.
Who is playing the role of the princess, you ask? Philotes. Who else?
Gah!
Regardless, we have to do our damndest to be convincing in our collective acting debut or Moros will string everything out. With Philotes being tortured (did I leave out that bit?), we don't have the luxury of screwing up...more than usual, at least. The longer we take to finish our storyline, satisfying Moros' need to see his story played out as perfectly as possible, and granting Perses yet even more information about the grave digger squad's abilities, the longer Philotes suffers.
And they ask me why I drink.

Grave Crusade
2023
The gates are open. Other realm gods are flooding in. I'm on a crusade.
With godland sealed off, my team of grave diggers is all that's left to stop Perses from gaining world domination. If we fail, the realm of Earth will fall into a state of hell that'll make zombie apocalypse stories look like light reading. Pain, torture, slavery, and worse will wash across humanity like a tidal wave of anguish and torment.
We're forced to travel to numerous locations in order to close each gate that Perses manages to open. And we have to be quick about it because the longer a gate remains open, the more power Perses can grab from it.
New York, Guatemala, Japan, and India are all on our itinerary.
Traveling is bad enough when you do it for fun. This ain't fun...mostly.
With the gates open, Perses is syphoning what he can from the other realm gods, he's laying traps, and he's getting nastier by the minute. He's also summoned a number of nasty deities to keep us at bay. On the one hand, it's kind of cool to battle against gods I've never seen before; on the other hand, it's proving to be rather painful.
Fun times.
The problem with playing in the games of gods is you're almost always smacked with something you never would have expected in a million years. And this one...well, it was a frickin' doozy.

Grave Sacrifice
2023
Perses has the high ground. My team has been divided. It's time to end this.
As I trudged up the road toward Vatican City, I knew I'd had no choice but to split the team up. It was the only way. I'm wasn't even slightly happy about it, but what other choice did I have? My wager with Dirgs made it clear we had to win or everything was going to fall into a vat of shit—metaphorically speaking...I think.
Perses and his crew of gods had started the process of loading up ancient power stations to give them a magical source that could rival the flow from godland. Taking down each station one by one was going be a bitch, too. According to what little information I had, we'd have to drop more than 50% of those sites or Perses would attain the required power he'd need to flip on the big generator. The lesser gods would be able to repair any damage we caused to a single site before we could complete our attack on the next one in line.
Bottom there was no way we'd be able to keep up pace.
So, yeah, I had to split the team.
That decision had left me alone, just like I'd been for thousands of years. Up until Perses started his rampage, that was all I knew and so I was content. Ever since the crew was formed, though, I'd learned the value of companionship—of family. Yes, that even included Marj, no matter how big of a pain in the ass she was.
It sucked, but it was the only way I could see to get through this mess.
Sending Mitzy off with Ama so they could work together to take out Avalon was the toughest part of my decision. I took some solace in the fact that she was tough and she worked great with Ama. In other words, it was the right call on my part.
Damn if I don’t miss having her by my side, though…
