Part of Series

The 29th work in the K-Fiction series that spotlights outstanding works of contemporary Korean literature, Seo Jang-won's HAPPY TOGETHER centers a trio of longtime friends who met in a college film club: Haejoo, Minhyung, and the narrator. Over the years, the group oscillates between closeness and estrangement, with Haejoo and Minhyung getting married and the narrator growing increasingly distant from them as a couple. However, when Haejoo announces her impending divorce and abortion, the narrator sees an opportunity to reconnect and care for her in the aftermath. It will be the first time the two of them are seeing each other since the narrator herself underwent gender affirmation surgery and began living openly as a transgender woman. Seo Jang-won graduated from the Department of Theater at Korea National University of Arts with a major in Narrative Writing. He began publishing stories through the 2020 Dong-a Ilbo Spring Literary Contest. Paige Aniyah Morris is a writer, educator, and translator from Jersey City, NJ, now based in South Korea. She holds BAs in Ethnic Studies and Literary Arts from Brown University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Rutgers University-Newark. The recipient of awards from the Fulbright Program and the American Literary Translators Association, she has translated work by Bak Solmay, Yi Sangwoo, Kim Sehee, and others.
