Marco Cason, a seasoned explorer, agrees to lead an expedition into the wilderness of the Adirondack Mountains to search for evidence of ancient civilizations. Unlike the others on the team, Marco believes in nothing magical or supernatural, and doesn’t know his teammates are guardians of the fae. The focus of the expedition is on finding artifacts, relics, and ancient shelters, but the guardians are also interested in meeting the little people they occasionally hear whispering in the wilderness. Searching a shallow cave for hints about the past, Maria is approached by a pixie, who recognizes Maria as a guardian. The pixie explains the mountain is filled with mystical clans and their homes are under attack. Mining is prohibited, but gold mines are scattered throughout the wilderness, and some treasure hunters ignore the law. With negligent use of dynamite and disregard for nature and the environment, illegal mining has destroyed more than the habitat of the supernatural creatures. It has also cost lives. After sharing the details of her encounter with the other guardians, the expedition takes a different path. When Marco is faced with the truth about the magical beings, he's forced to reevaluate everything he believed. Still, he becomes a central force when he battles beside the fae to save Heritage Mountain
