Everyone's favorite pint-sized Scotsman gets his own origin story, with art by Herogasm artist John McCrea. Mind reeling from recent events in The Boys, Wee Hughie heads home to Auchterladle, the semi-idyllic Scottish seaside town where he grew up. All Hughie wants is some time to himself, to return to the bosom of family and friends, to get his head together after two years of unimaginable, unremitting, and egregious chaos. But our hero's luck has always been more cloud than silver lining, and the familiar surroundings he craves are not all they might be. You can go home again—but with old pals warped beyond recognition and strangers in town up to no good, whether or not you should is another matter entirely...

Hughie delves into his past, but finds that the halcyon days of childhood are not all they're cracked up to be. The successes of his junior detective operation with Big Bobby and Det were few and far between- but is there a connection between their oldest case and the shadowy outfit now moving narcotics through the idyllic town of Auchterladle? A certain Russian connection brings up a name from the Boys' past, in part two of the six-part Highland Laddie.

Life in Auchterladle starts to settle down for Hughie, and with the return of an old love there may even be a ray of sunshine for our young hero. But into Eden comes the serpent, as Joe Tupper and the monstrous Big Sarah set about their bloody business. And just when things are looking up, a new arrival throws Hughie's world into chaos yet again...

Our hero's visit home turns violent, and everyone loses something- Hughie a friend, Tupper his sense of humor, and Big Bobby something even more vital. Hughie finally comes to terms with his home and his past, but not before one last secret is revealed: his own.
