Vetting the Cowboy

2019

When Mike Henry, the new veterinarian in town, meets cowboy Seth Archer, it could be good times ahead—but Mike’s ex isn’t about to let him go without a fight. Seth Archer, working cowboy on a dude ranch in Northern California, is thrown for a loop when he meets Mike Henry, the new veterinarian in town. The five-foot-eight bespectacled Mike isn’t Seth’s type, but the blue eyes behind the glasses are something Seth can’t seem to get past or forget. Mike’s on the run. Well, not exactly, but he left Seattle to get away from Victor Torrens, a dominating boyfriend who turned abusive when Mike told him he wouldn’t be his submissive. Mike hasn’t worked with horses before, but it’s not long before his natural love of animals—and cowboys—makes him decide to call the small town of Denton home. Seth and Mike bond, but their love affair might just be doomed before it truly begins when Victor sends Alex Brand, a celebrity bodyguard, to strongarm Mike back to Seattle. In order to protect Seth and his new friends from Alex’s big fists, Mike may be forced to make a decision he’ll regret for the rest of his life. Reader advisory: This book contains scenes involving an abusive ex. There are threats and memories of violence, car accidents involving death and a scene involving attempted abduction with violence. Teaching the Cowboy

2020

A rough rider with a dark past, looking for a fresh start in life, meets a high school teacher with a different kind of lesson in mind. Jordan Hendricks, trying to put the past behind him, is hired at the Seven Plus, a dude ranch that caters mainly to gay men and women. On his second day there, Jordan meets Blake Cameron, a high school teacher from San Francisco, and attraction sizzles between them. Unfortunately, Seven Plus rules prohibit sexual fraternization between trainers and guests, a rule that Parker Jones, one of the ranch's owners, tells Jordan is ‘set in stone'. Nevertheless, the two men bond, and on Blake's last night at the ranch, he coaxes Jordan into a goodbye kiss and a promise to meet again outside the ranch where they can explore the possibilities of a relationship. But Jordan's past, in the form of Grant Svenson, the man who controlled his life for more than three years and who attacked him in a drunken rage and destroyed Jordan's rodeo career, comes back to haunt him. Unless Jordan can stop Grant from wreaking havoc a second time, the chance of a future with Blake will never be realized.

Stuart and Cole are reunited after a decade apart, but can love overcome resentment after so long? Cole Cassidy, Stuart Reynolds’ protector against their abusive foster father, shattered Stuart by leaving him behind the day he turned eighteen. As much as Stuart hoped and prayed that Cole would return and rescue him from the hell he lived in, it never happened. Ten years later, Cole is stunned to find Stuart working at the Seven Plus Ranch…and Stuart is not at all happy to be reunited with the man he thought had deserted him all those years ago. Stuart learns he has been harboring an undeserved resentment toward Cole, and while recounting the time they’d endured together, a strong bond is forged between them that soon deepens into love. But Stuart is still haunted by memories of his past abuse and relives them in nightmares he feels will be too much for Cole to understand—or live with. J.P. Bowie was born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland. He wrote his first (unpublished) novel – a science fiction tale of brawny men and brawnier women that made him a little suspect in the eyes of his family for a while. Leaving home at age eighteen for the bright lights of London, he found himself in the midst of a “diverse and creative crowd” that eventually led him to the performing arts. For the next twelve years he sang, danced and acted his way around the theatres of London and the provinces, appearing in shows with many famous British singers, actors and comedians. After immigrating to the US and living for many years in Las Vegas where he worked for that incomparable duo, Siegfried and Roy, J.P. found himself entranced by the fair city of San Diego where he currently lives with his partner, Phil.
