Hunt’s recovery is slow, and it is wearing on his nerves. Ace and the men are having great success without him in the lead, and Hunt begins to wonder if he’s needed or as crucial to the team as he has always thought. Earl comes to Denver at the end of the ninety-day leave of absence to see if Hunt can return to work. Hunt must convince Junior to spend a year with Clover in Indiana to learn the pig business. Hunt receives a telegram from the Mayor of Salt Lake City and expresses a concern that he is hiring non-believers when bible fearing Mormons are begging for work. Hunt sends a mission to Utah to find a criminal that escaped from the Ohio Penitentiary and received word that the man was hanging out in the Henry Mountains a few miles west of Hanksville and has upset a lady friend that has reported who he truly is and is living under a fictitious name. Hunt hires four brothers to work at the Green River farms and discovers one of the boys robbed the bar in the hotel and seriously injured Danny, the young bartender. Hunt has his doubts that hiring the boys was the right decision.
