Jane Goodall describes in her field notes her observations of a hyena family. Though her notes are thoroughly annotated and detailed, this book is family friendly and her observations have been adapted for younger audiences. Vocabulary will be too difficult for beginning readers. Children who have loving oral readers will definitely enjoy this book. The photography is amazing. Full color photographs on each page supplement a simple, yet entertaining story of a day in the life of a hyena "family". Hyena pups are adorable photographs but there are also photos of angry hyenas, a feeding frenzy and the hunt. This is an excellent book for the young naturalist or zoologist in any family. Especially if you plan to read it with them.
