Ashley Obscura is a Canadian-Mexican writer, publisher and editor. She is the author of the poetry collections Ambient Technology and I Am Here (Metatron, 2014) and four digital poetry projects: LIGHGHT, How to Be A Rainbow, Aura Halo and Oh, Inverted Universe. The founder and managing editor of Metatron Press, Obscura currently lives in Montreal, Quebec where she holds a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and Professional Writing. Ambient Technology was shortlisted for Fence’s Modern Poets Prize in 2017 and Obscura was anthologized as one of Canada’s 30 Under 30 poets (With/Words Press, 2017). Her poetry has also been anthologized in the United States and has been translated and published in Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Peru and Romania. She was recently the scriptwriter for Museum of Symmetry (2018), a surreal, virtual reality experience produced by the National Film Board of Canada. Obscura’s multi-disciplinary approach to poetry explores how one situates the self and creates meaning within the simultaneous union and chasm of the spiritual, physical and virtual realms. From scriptwriting for virtual reality, creating visually-stimulating digital poetry, composing ambient sound art, sensual spoken word performances of her work, to cosmic tweets and an emotionally-charged and vulnerable approach to social media, Obscura’s work spans a spectrum of medium, attempting to occupy a space that bridges the gap between our visible and invisible worlds.
