Mountain man and manhunter, Israel Pope was a calm, forgiving man. But attack him or his family and he became an efficient, stone-cold killer. Pope started out as a river boater, fur trapper, scout, wagon train master, horse rancher and bounty hunter – later in life, he became a member of the Kiowa tribe with the name Bear Fighter. Men and bears fell to his Bowie knife, rifle and tomahawk. A blood brother to the Kiowa's, he was a legend throughout the West. “G. Wayne Tilman is a remarkable writer about the Old West. You can taste the authenticity he serves up in each tale.”

The direct descendent of one of America's first sheriffs in the 1600's, related to legendary lawman Bill Tilghman, a career as a security contractor, and in local and federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies was a natural progression, with detours in the USMC, a couple of degrees, as a bank security director, and senior vice president of several household name mutual fund companies. Tilman is a subject matter expert in small arms, maritime issues (a US Coast Guard Master Captain), risk assessment, and protective intelligence. For pleasure, he writes the type books he likes to read, kayaks, fishes the flats and shoots clay birds in several venues
