This Buzz Books Monthly is jammed with excerpts of four June debuts, along with three novels. Two novels are by British authors Allison Pearson and Katy Regan. Pearson’s follow up to I Don’t Know How She Does It is the comical How Hard Can It Be? while Little Big Love is Regan’s US debut. In The Lost Vintage, travel and food writer Ann Mah describes a woman who returns to her family’s ancestral vineyard in Burgundy and unexpectedly uncovers a lost diary, an unknown relative, and a secret her family has been keeping since World War II. Among debuts, Jane Rosenberg LaForge’s The Hawkman: A Fairy Tale of the Great War is an adaptation of a classic myth. James McLaughlin’s Bearskin is about a caretaker for a remote forest preserve in Virginia who tries to catch the poachers who are killing the bears under his watch. In the subtly science fiction plot of Tell The Machine Goodnight by Katie Williams, the protagonist’s job is to make people happy. Spencer Wise’s first novel The Emperor of Shoes is set in a remote village in China, where a young American struggles with discovering corruption in his father’s shoe factory.
