Diretto seguito de I Corsari delle Bermude, riprende immediatamente il racconto precedente. Mentre la lotta infuriava tra la "Tuonante" e la fregata del Marchese d'Halifax, alla nave del capitano Mac-Lellan viene spezzato l'albero di trinchetto e quindi la sua corsa si interrompe e l'odiato marchese prende il largo. La nave deve perciò tornare a Boston per le riparazioni, ma ben presto è di nuovo pronta a riprendere il mare e a dare battaglia ed è tanto più temuta per la presenza, a bordo, di un puntatore abilissimo, Mastro Testa di Pietra, sempre in compagnia del simpatico Piccolo Flocco, e del capitano Mac-Lellan, che postosi nuovamente sulle tracce del marchese, riprende con lui il combattimento interrotto.
