Quali sono le origini delle fiabe che abbiamo ascoltato da bambini mentre, sognando ad occhi aperti, fantasticavamo di principi, scarpette di cristallo e gatti parlanti dai poteri magici? In quest’opera si mettono a confronto tre fiabe di Perrault (Cenerentola, La bella addormentata nel bosco e Il gatto con gli stivali) con le loro controparti italiane, quelle di Gianbattista Basile, tratte da Lo cunto de li cunti. Per scoprire che anche le fiabe in realtà nascondono il loro “lato oscuro”. “Non esistono fiabe non cruente. Tutte le fiabe provengono dalla profondità del sangue e dell'angoscia.” Franz Kafka

Charles Perrault was a French author who laid foundations for a new literary genre, the fairy tale, and whose best known tales, offered as if they were pre-existing folk tales, include: Little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Puss in Boots, Cinderella, Bluebeard, Hop o' My Thumb), Diamonds and Toads, Patient Griselda, The Ridiculous Wishes... Perrault's most famous stories are still in print today and have been made into operas, ballets (e.g., Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty), plays, musicals, and films, both live-action and animation. The Brothers Grimm retold their own versions of some of Perrault's fairy tales.
