José Luis de la Fuente, known under the name of Chiqui, is the younger brother of Victor de la Fuente. His style is recognizable for its resemblances to the typical "belgian school". After having lived in Argentina for a while, Chiqui returned to Spain in 1958, where he began his career in comics. His earliest work appeared in Balalín ('Titín') and Dolár ('El Ranger Solitaro'). He contributed to the international agency Selecciones Ilustradas, but soon established himself as a talented illustrator of humor comics. In the following years, he worked for numerous periodicals, mainly Chío and Trinca. His most famous creations are the series 'Hector' and 'Oliver', which he both started in the early 1970s. From 1974 to 1992 he also adapted numerous literary classics in the Colección Maravillas de la Literatura. For the German Kauka Verlag, he illustrated the series 'Die Vier Freunde' in 1972. Chiqui de la Fuente passed away in Madrid in 1992.
