The Pyramid Builders
2012
Dr. Christopher Connor has discovered a way to view the past. His invention collects light and focuses it such that events that occurred on Earth years ago can be viewed. All one need do is travel one light year away and one can see what was happening on the planet a year earlier by capturing and focusing the reflected light that left Earth a year ago. There’s only one problem: no ship exists that can travel faster than the speed of light, so his device cannot be conclusively demonstrated to function as advertised. That’s fine with Christopher, who would much rather party and have a good time rather than defend his creation against critics and governmental bureaucrats. Besides, who would pay to view the past anyway?
Jillian Gordon, an Egyptologist with a PhD in Quantum Physics, has discovered that the survival of Earth depends on viewing what happened at the building of the Great Pyramid of Khufu five thousand years in the past. Christopher’s device would allow her to do just that and she intends to draft him into the project. Christopher is about to discover that the organization Jillian works for has engineered a starship with a faster-than-light drive, which will now allow his device to be field tested. The stardrive for that ship was developed from diagrams carved on the back of an ancient stone tablet excavated at the site of the Great Pyramid.
Life for Christopher is about to make a radical departure from his party, happy-go-lucky lifestyle. Getting Christopher to focus on what needs to be done is a problem Jillian hadn’t counted on in her quest to save humanity. The predicted destruction of Earth, which is carved on the front of the tablet, doesn’t leave her much time and Christopher isn’t cooperating.
What neither of them know is that the answer to survival is more than sixty five million light years away in light that left Earth just before the mass extinction of the dinosaurs.

What makes the situation dire is that the species that wiped out the Blue Giants and the Jenze in both the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxies four million years earlier is returning to repeat the process on new civilizations.
Even the Blue Giants have no chance against the returning warships from the giant galaxy, M-87 and time is growing short. The Moet and Alliance are evacuating their planets and Earth will be left behind to face the coming menace. Another book in Mr Andrew's prolific and always excellent releases. The Lens of time grabs you at the first word and holds on. Dr. Christopher Connor has invented a device to interpret the light that has left the Earth into its component occurrences but he needs a faster than light ship to get ahead of the light in able to see backwards into the light stream and display the incidents as they happened. Dr. Jillian Gordon has plans for an FTL ship found in an archaeology expedition to the Great pyramid of Egypt along with a warning that the earth will be destroyed within the next 4-6 years. The book is the story of these two, with a great supporting cast, combining forces and combating this coming disaster. In doing so, they run across alien civilizations who may not be friendly. This is a fast paced, hard to put down book that leaves you anxiously awaiting the next in the series, as all of Mr. Andrew's books do.

Lens of Time is an extraordinarily enjoyable book that will have you on the edge of your seat from its very opening scenes. The book is deceptively easy to read, but contains a plethora of fascinating ideas, excitement and characters.
Dr. Christopher Connor is a wonderfully colorful protagonist who is brought to life by Andrew's excellent characterization of him. As readers, we empathize with him immediately and cannot help being drawn into his extraordinary adventure.
I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but needless to say that the only downside to reading this exciting book is that you will be wishing that the next one was released right away.
One of the year's most enjoyable reads. Highly recommended.

Pray for the Prey
2012
From the International bestselling author Saxon Andrew comes the third book in the Lens of Time series, Pray for the Prey. Humanity has managed to avoid detection by the Violet Civilization and has only lost nine planets in the Milky Way to their war fleet. Now they were faced with a decision; do they keep a low profile and hide or join the war against the civilization killing Violet Ships. To attack the 300,000 ships going to attack Andromeda with only twelve hundred main battleships was suicidal. But to wait was just as dangerous. Whichever path they chose, everyone needed to take time to pray for the prey.

Fun and engaging, with loads of suspense, the book is a rush from start to finish. New civilizations are found, new relationships made, and new tactics and technologies are developed. For being as short as it is, there's a lot in it. There's not as much full blown space combat as there is in the author's other series, but events are definitely moving in that direction and hopefully the next book will have some epic battles. I particularly like the choice to make the surrounding factions deal with each other in a big free for all, adding a new dimension to how Earth is able to navigate the various dangers presented and negotiate terms with a combination of 'big stick' tactics and misdirection.
Excerpt from "Pray for the Prey"
Aman looked at his panel and said, “More ships are jumping in.”
“Where are they originating?”
“It’s like you suspected. They’re being moved from above the space port.” Aman paused, “Why are you so intent on hitting the space port?”
“That’s where they’re building their new ships. The view taken by the Jukebox shows thousands of them on the ground. I want to hit them where it hurts. It also appears the port is their largest city as well.”
“The next line is firing more energy pulses at us and they have now added three more lines above and below their original ships. I suspect rock climbing just got a tad more difficult.”
“Did you ever go caving, Aman?”
“Nope, I’m claustrophobic as well.”
“Get out of here! How did you ever make it into the service?”
“Must be my charming personality and outstanding good looks. How do you intend to make it through that barrage moving at us?”
“I’m going to use a striker.”
“That will only leave us three to hit the planet.”
“Actually it will leave us four.”
Aman looked at Gretchen with a furrowed brow and then realized what she was saying. He smiled and said, “You’re right. I miscounted.” Gretchen slowed the ship slightly to allow the eighty thousand energy pulses chasing them to move closer. She matched their speed and Aman launched a heavy striker at the middle of the incoming mass of energy pulses. Aman gripped the arms of his chair, “I hope they’re right about the force field.”

Excerpt from; Chosen to Die
Gibbs arrived on the Wellington and was led to the bridge. Angel saw the Senior Fleet Admiral enter and she said, “Bridge Crew, Attennnnshun.” The crew came to attention and Angel saluted. Gibbs returned her salute and said, “As you were.” He stared at Angel and swore he was looking at a younger Gresha. If this child of theirs possessed just a tiny fraction of their abilities…he was not going to lose her due to technicalities. “Captain, I understand you have modified the weapon systems on the Union’s most modern Battleship?”
Suddenly, the alarm klaxons began blaring; the ship suddenly accelerated and made a sharp dive. Angel pulled her helmet visor down and jumped into her command chair, “Buckle in Admiral, we have six blue ships that just appeared and disrupted space around Earth.”
Gibbs fought the gravity push and managed to get to one of the empty chairs on the bridge. “Get me a combat helmet!!”
The jump officer reached under his console, pulled out a helmet, and tossed it to Gibbs. He caught it, activated it and heard the Executive Officer say, “All stations report in ready, Sir.” Gibbs was shocked. It took him ten seconds to manage to crawl to the chair and get a helmet. This ship was combat ready in less than fifteen seconds.
He looked at Angel and heard her say to the Helmsman, “I’ve got the ship. Captain Stone, you have the weapons.”
“All are active and tracking the incoming ships, Sir.”
Gibbs activated the visor on the helmet and saw six large blue warships moving in toward Earth from just outside the moon’s orbit. He saw nine of the old Jukeboxes accelerate out from the moon to intercept them. The six invading ships began launching attack ships and the Jukeboxes started launching their Rovers. A massive dogfight broke out as the two groups of ships moved closer together.
Gibbs looked at his tactical and saw that Arvolo’s children were moving their ships out toward the battle. “Captain, you should stop here and wait for the defense ships to handle the invaders.”
Angel shook her head, “Sir, according to my computer, those old Jukeboxes are no match for the beams being fired by those six ships. My parents and all of Earth’s Senior Flag Officers are on Earth and we can’t allow those ships to get close enough to fire on the planet. They’ll be forced to use the planet’s force field and we have to avoid revealing that technology to them.” Gibbs stared at Angel and saw in his tactical display that three of the six Jukeboxes were burning in space.
