Mending His Past

2020

A hurting ex-soldier and his dog, a single mother and her little girl, and the second chance at love they never saw coming. Sergeant Trent Roland came home from a painful deployment a while ago, but the barricades around his heart are still up. Now, he’s rebuilding the storm-damaged Wounded Warrior Rescue in the seaside town of Liberty Cove. But he’s counting the days until he can put the small-town life behind and get lost in the big city. While in town, a German shepherd from the rescue begins to break through his defenses. But nothing can prepare him for the moment he comes face-to-face with the woman he left behind ten years ago. He wants to love her like she deserves, but fears he’s forgotten how. Olivia Malone once had big-city dreams of her own, but becoming a single mom changed her priorities in a hurry. Now, she has no desire to take her young daughter away from the idyllic town she grew up in, even though work is hard to come by. Her love for her daughter demands that she take any honest job she can find, even if it means treading dangerously close to a ghost from her past—a tall, dark, and handsome ghost. Their chemistry is just as red hot as ever, but she must consider more than her own desires these days. Olivia's been down the road of rejection more than once and has her walls firmly in place! Her daughter is her world, and she can’t risk breaking either of their hearts by inviting a man into their lives whose main goal seems to be leaving her behind… again. War taught him it’s better not to feel. Failed relationships taught her it’s better not to trust. Things heat up at the Wounded Warrior Rescue when Trent and Olivia must decide if taking a second chance at love is worth the risk.

Mending His Dream

2020

An ex-Air Force mechanic with a lot to prove, a veterinarian with a lot to hide, and the rescue dog who gave them a second chance at love. Family duty called Air Force Staff Sergeant Levi Renner home to Liberty Cove, but the respect he’d earned in the service didn’t follow him into civilian life. When his matchmaking boss thrusts him into close quarters with the high school sweetheart who rejected him long ago, he’s reminded of all the reasons working stiffs like him are unlucky in love. He never met an engine he couldn’t fix, but he may not have enough tools in his toolbox to fix what’s broken between him and his ex. Veterinarian Brooke Larsen moved back home with a suitcase full of secrets after losing her practice in Los Angeles. Now it’s up to her to protect her perfect reputation as the hometown girl who made it in the big city. Ready to tackle the job of building a new practice in a familiar place, she agrees to become the resident vet at the Wounded Warriors Rescue. Life gets complicated when she learns she’ll be working alongside her ex—a man she never really got over. When confronted with their lovable boss' romantic scheme to get them together, Levi and Brooke join forces to outsmart her and come up with a plan to take control of their futures. Life gets a whole lot more complicated when Levi makes a secret deal with Brooke's father—a deal that will shatter their uneasy alliance if Brooke ever finds out.

Mending His Scars

2021

A veteran amputee, a photographer with scars of her own, and the secret that stands in the way of their second chance at love. Jax Carder’s leg wasn’t the only thing claimed by an explosion during his deployment overseas. The dust had barely settled before his relationship with a feisty brunette imploded. He’d been the rescuer when they’d met months before, but after the blast all she saw was a man in need of rescuing. Now he’s home and working for the Wounded Warriors Rescue where he’s been tasked with the job of rehabilitating a three-legged dog. That shouldn’t be too hard since he knows exactly what an amputee needs: respect and independence. Riley McCracken met her guardian angel the day Jax saved her life from a band of terrorists. He was brave, strong, and completely fearless—all things she used to be. Ever since her rescue, she’s hidden near-crippling fears that strangled her relationship with the only man she ever truly loved. Now she’s on her way to claim an inheritance in Liberty Cove where she’ll have to decide whether to give in to her fears and accept the safety of small town life or put Jax and the seaside town behind her and continue facing her demons alone. She desperately wants a third option, but isn't sure if one even exists. Jax and Riley are on a collision course, and it’s up to them whether the torches they still carry for one another will reignite the fires of love or set off a destructive explosion their uneasy relationship will never recover from.

Mending His Trust

2022

A retired Marine colonel and the lonely, unofficial town matchmaker are thrown together as the fate of the Wounded Warriors Rescue hangs in the balance. Jim Larsen is all set to move home to his family's dairy farm in Wisconsin—what better place to cool his feelings for Kat than in the frozen north? It would be a great plan, too, if only he could leave his broken heart behind in Liberty Cove. He waited too many years for her widow's heart to heal. Now convinced that he'll never compete with the memory of her departed husband, he understands it's time to move on. The drive home will be a lonely one, but not as lonely as the long winter nights ahead of him with nothing but the sound of cattle to keep him company. Kat Davenport has almost run out of smiles. The man she was certain would make a move for her heart, made a move across the country instead, causing her to question everything she thought she knew about love. While still in shock about Jim's sudden departure, she learns that someone on the city council has it in for the Wounded Warrior Rescue. A letter arrives informing her that she's got one month to clear out of the rescue. Zoning laws that haven't mattered to anyone for the past twenty years are now the weapons that threaten to destroy her life's work and the home she's made for the returning veterans who find refuge under her roof. Kat and the rescue boys mobilize to save the rescue, but just as a plan starts to come together, she receives devastating news about Jim… news that brings back haunting memories of the night she lost her husband to a heart attack many years ago. She wants nothing more than to be by Jim's side until she can be sure he'll pull through, but can she risk leaving the rescue in the middle of a crisis knowing she's got a houseful of men and rescue dogs depending on her?

Mending His Ways

2023

Corporal Pete Maddox’s road to redemption runs through the Wounded Warrior Rescue, but his troubled past might be a bigger roadblock to repairing his relationship with Penny than he can overcome. Pete Maddox became a teenaged troublemaker after his father was killed in the line of duty. But four years in the Marines has changed him. Now he’s home, and he’s on a mission—to make amends with the people he hurt most, including the woman he still loves. It’s the final step in his road to fully reclaiming the person he was before tragedy struck his family. But old wounds can be the most difficult to heal. Liberty Cove might seem like a sleepy little town to others, but not to Penny Donahue. After practically growing up at her family’s bustling diner, now she’s the one responsible for running it—all while caring for her aging grandmother and finishing up her college degree. New family drama puts even more responsibility on her shoulders just as her old flame comes back to town, dredging up painful wounds he knows nothing about. Pete isn’t sure he deserves Penny’s love, and she isn’t interested in a second chance with a man who only reminds her of her biggest hidden insecurity. Together they’ll have to decide if the healing they both crave is worth the risk of opening their hearts just one more time.

Kristen Iten is a night owl-ish author, and mother of three happy little owlets. She spends her working hours solving mysteries, bringing evil doers to justice, and meddling in the love lives of her imaginary friends. She suffers from an over active imagination, but doesn’t really mind because it helps with the whole ‘writing books thing’. She lives in a cute little town, in a cute little house, with her cute little family, and couldn’t possibly be happier. MY REVIEW POLICY: As an author, I understand how valuable reviews can be. In the past, I enjoyed reviewing books. That being said, if I couldn't leave a review with a 4 or 5 star rating I wouldn't review at all. I never downgraded a star rating based on my personal reading preferences. It is easy to spot a book that an author put a lot of thought and heart into. If I found that a book was well crafted, I happily left a positive review whether the book was written in my preferred style and genre or not. I do not review books anymore now that I am an author myself.
