Part of Series

If you don't have friends, you can't get hurt. Beverly has had a terrible year, and she has retreated from the world. Her father no longer trusts her, and no one at school will even speak to her anymore and she is living a life without any friends. It might be lonely, but it's just easier that way. Then, one day, out of nowhere, she meets Derek. He is kind and gentle, and slowly, she begins to feel safe with him. She can talk to him about—almost—anything. But, the horrible events of the past year are the last barrier between them. Beverly knows that she can never tell Derek about what happened, because he will never forgive her, and she can't stand the thought of losing him. If she risks telling the truth, it will ruin everything. And if she isn't honest with him, that might ruin everything, too. But, maybe it won't.
