SOMEBODY'S MILKING THE MOTHERLODE The Murrietta Mining Co. was in deep trouble. There they slaved, digging out highgrade ore from their California claim, rolling it down the mountain to the U.S. Mint—losing track of it before it even hit bottom. Where were the gold shipments going? To claim jumpers? Thieving miners? Longarm crossed the glittering fields to find out. On the way he uncovered a queenly rancher—with hair of Spanish gold and a dangerously tropical temper.
