Carol Papus lives with her grandmother in a small upstate New York community. Carol’s understanding is that her father deserted her mother and her mother was killed in a car accident. Carol is plagued by violent sexual dreams, often awakening in the middle of the night to find she has grown bigger and harder. When a young man tries to rape her, she kills him with this instantaneous super strength. Frightened by what she’s done, she flees home and her grandmothers tells her the truth: Carol is a descendent of an ancient tribe of Amazons who live undetected in the modern world. Her grandmother had taken her from her mother in hopes she will not become one of them.
