Mor Jokai was a 19th century Hungarian dramatist and novelist. He studied law in order to follow in his father’s footsteps. After the success of his first play he left the legal profession in order to write. In 1847 he became editor of the Hungarian literary journal Eletkepek. A Romance of Transylvania is the story of Manasseh Adorjan, a Hungarian man of intelligence and talents, who meets Princess Cagilari on a train. She is on the way to Rome to petition the Pope for a divorce. Manasseh is a leader among Hungary's Unitarians. He sees no obstacle in their religious differences. Manasseh Adorjan's enemies and Prince Cagliari will use forgeries and schemes to cause the couple trouble.
