I have no hope of ever reaching the genius of Jane Austen, but this story would not leave me be until it was written. I think of it as Pride and Prejudice in a parallel universe; I only hope Miss Austen forgives me for the liberties I have taken with her characters as this story explores if Darcy had reacted to his parents' death differently and seen Elizabeth Bennet is a different light at first sight.
