Mohamed Magani is an Algerian writer and lecturer in social science, and the author of a number of novels and non-fiction studies in French. In 1987 he was awarded the Grand Prix Littéraire International de la Ville d'Alger for his novel La Faille du ciel. He has also published the novels Esthétique de boucher, Un Temps berlinois (2001), Le refuge des ruines (2002), Une guerre se meurt (2004), Scène de pêche en Algiers [Fishing scene in Algeria:] and the soon-to-be published Le bruit d'une goutte d'eau. He has also published two short story collections in English, An Icelandic Dream (1993) and Please Pardon Our Appearance Whilst We Redress the Window Display (1995). His works have been translated into German, Italian, English, Serbo-Croatian and Dutch. Mohamed Magani is the founder and current president of PEN Algeria, and a board member of PEN International. He was a participant of the University of Iowa's Internationa Writing Program in 1985 and in 2007.
